PRS has done it all. Anything they set their mind to, they always seem to nail it.

If they want to create a new model, it’s a hit.

If they want to re-create a vintage guitar (and make it even more amazing), it’s a hit.

Well now they’ve done both in the same instrument.

Introducing the PRS Silver Sky John Mayer Model

The result of a two-year collaboration between Grammy Award-winning musician John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, the PRS Silver Sky is based off of the PRS DC3 but has the feel and neck of an early 60's Strat.

Honestly, this thing is amazing and once you play it you’re going to feel right at home. But what immediately sets this model apart from other collaborations is PRS' attention to detail.

Flipped Headstock

For starters, take a look at the headstock shape. To accomodate Mayer's playing style (he needed some extra clearance on the underside just past the nut), PRS actually flipped their trademark design. The result not only looks awesome, but also keeps a consistent length of string behind the nut which makes tuning easier.

Vintage-Style Tuners

The closed-back tuners are another attractive, but still practical detail. Whereas vintange-style tuners sometimes have trouble maintaining consistent tension, PRS eliminated that problem without sacrificing good looks by using their proprietary locking design.

635JM Single Coil Pickups

Now, let's briefly talk electronics ... Short for 1963.5, or the halfway point between the '63 and '64 vintage guitars John and Paul modeled the guitar after, the 635JM single-coil pickups were designed to sound like vintage pickups with a lot of musical high-end and a sometimes "ice-picky" sound. The end result is a sound that's both vintage and distinctly PRS.

Should the PRS Silver Sky Be Your Next Guitar?

Let me put it this way — if you’ve ever wished PRS would get into the single-coil market so you could have the well-known playability and clarity of a PRS, with the nuances and feel of your vintage guitar, then the new Silver Sky model is a dream come true.

It is the best of both worlds and we promise you're going to love it!

If you’re a player that wants to play clean or soulfully dirty blues, this is the guitar you’ve been waiting for.

The pickups Paul and John designed for this guitar are so musical that I actually feel like they make you play better. When PRS gave us the chance to play it at the factory, it honestly made me want to play more than I have in a long time.
