Andy's performance here at Moore Music was incredibly inspiring. All of the things that we guitar players look for were present and accounted for. Let's start with tone...the walls were dripping with it! Of course, the gear plays a part in that. Andy was playing his signature Ibanez guitar through some killer pedals, most notably a Strymon Timeline Delay, a Carl Martin Compressor and signature JHS Channel Drive.
For amps, he used a pair of Mesa LoneStar combos, and we know those are no slouches! Secondly, Andy's playing style, note choices and phrasing were spot on.
Watching players just blow chops gets old fast, but I could sit and listen to Andy play all day long.
The technique and chops are definitely there, but weaved into a well crafted, well thought out style that is impressive and tasteful, leaving me wanting to hear more. Finally, Andy's song choices were great! We got to hear some of Andy's well known solo tunes, but we were treated to some very cool Beatles covers, Andy Timmons style! To top things off, two of Andy's most influential guitar heroes were in the room, beaming with pride.
A long line formed after the clinic and his former guitar teacher was one of the first ones to chat with Andy.
