MMG AT THE 2016 PRS EXPERIENCE
Man, what an amazing Experience we had at the PRS Factory in early June.
The 2016 PRS Experience was truly the best one so far in our opinion and we were proud to be a part of it. From the purchasing event, to the food, to the new friends we made, to the artists, it was epic in all ways.
We kicked off the event with a light lunch with Paul Reed Smith and the PRS crew getting caught up on everything from family to new guitars, then it was off the the dealer purchasing event. We grabbed what we feel like were the best guitars on the tables and had them on display for attending PRS fans to view and purchase. Here are a few of the pics from our table and some closeups of the instruments we bought.
After we got the booth set up, it was time for the Signature Club Members to show up for their exclusive party and a first look at the guitars we were offering. Needless to say, the guitars we showed were a huge hit and a few found new homes that evening.
The new guitars PRS came out with for the Experience were the McCarty 594 and the Exclusive PRS Experience 2016 guitar, the Custom 24-08.
The McCarty 594 is the new buzz in the industry due to its functionality and vintage stylings. It boasts the 3 way toggle in a familiar, but not-so-familiar placement, 2 volume and 2 tone pots with the added versatility of the coil taps on the tone pots for each pickup. With the Vintage Pattern neck, it is a crazy comfortable guitar to play in the 1-5 fret range!
The Custom 24-08 Experience Guitar is a melting together of the beloved Custom 24 that we all know, and the versatile functionality of the 408 model. While the 408 has been a great model, some folks, including us at MMG, have asked for a full size humbucker with the switching capabilities of the 408...
...well PRS listened and it is the Custom 24-08! Check them out soon on our website, or call Dennis to get sneaky access to this VERY Limited Guitar! We have 2 of them left and there are ONLY 35 TOTAL IN THE UNITED STATES!
The most talked about guitar on our table was the Hollowbody Short-scale Private Stock Bass we had built for the event. It was based off of the 2016 January Guitar of the Month from PRS and was the brainchild of Paul Miles, the Private Stock Department Head for PRS. It has an amazing one piece white-washed swamp ash back that was a showstopper in itself. The flame on the fretboard was just as much an eye-catcher as the red inlays on it.
A big part of why we love PRS Guitars so much are the people and Paul himself is no exception. He was glad to stop what he was doing to sign one of our customers guitars for him. Here is a shot Brian Browning with Paul as he is signing his new CE24.

So, because we were at our booth all day, we missed a lot of the cool clinics and events going on but we did get to see the evening main concerts and the after parties.
Some highlights were seeing the Paul Reed Smith Band, Boscoe France (local friend of the store), and Black Stone Cherry. To see all these artists making these instruments sound so good was amazing to be a part of.
And obviously, to close the PRS Experience, Living Colour performed a mind-blowing set to cap it all off. Vernon's custom Vela Guitars were killer and he played them as he always does, like a maniac. Here are some pictures of the show and Ed with Vernon. Sorry you can't see Vernon and his guitars very well but I was too close!!!
While this was all fun, just being around all the PRS friends, fans, and family was the best part! Getting to hang with all our friends from other stores and the PRS crew after the shows each night is another main reason we fly to Maryland several times a year. Eating the good food and smelling the salt in the air while talking about guitars is what it's all about!
