Moore Music Plans Expansion of Store, Inventory and Music Lessons with Acquisition of Opus 1 Music

EVANSVILLE, Indiana - March 23, 2017 –

Moore Music today announced it will acquire Opus 1 Music and the building in which it resides. Opus 1 Music has been a leader in the local music scene for nearly 40 years. Moore Music’s acquisition of Opus 1 Music will expand the company’s retail and warehouse space, and also expand the inventory and music lesson services Moore Music will offer Tri-State musicians.

Moore Music has experienced tremendous growth since Brett Mulzer purchased the Morgan Avenue store in 2012. Mulzer’s commitment to strong partnerships with elite brands in the music industry, high levels of customer service and staff expertise, as well as expansion of its customer base through the online store, MooreMusicGuitars.com, necessitated the store’s expansion into a bigger space.

Cathy Buxton, owner of Opus 1 Music with her husband, Dr. John Buxton, stated, “The timing could not be more perfect. Moore Music needed more space and we were considering retirement. The acquisition ensures that the legacy of Opus 1 Music continues and our customers will be taken care of by a company with a sincere excitement about the music community.”

The purchase of Opus 1 Music includes the entire Buxton Plaza campus, which is also occupied by psychology offices and Buxton Motorsports. After an extensive remodel of the Plaza at 301 N. Royal Avenue, Moore Music will move from their Morgan Avenue location to the renovated store and utilize the entire complex. The remodel will include a larger retail space with expanded product lines and inventory; increased warehouse space and shipping area to better serve online customers; as well as a bigger music lesson program with more teachers; and a brand new music venue to serve the local music scene.

Opus 1 Music will continue operations at the current location as the acquisition is completed. Moore Music will maintain operations at their current space on 4200 E Morgan Avenue until the remodel is completed. Further announcements regarding a Grand Opening and move to the updated location will soon be announced.

“Moore Music is excited about our role in the local music community. It’s my personal passion to serve all musicians no matter their level of expertise. Expanding Moore Music with the acquisition of Opus 1 allows us to better serve many generations of music enthusiasts. It’s an honor to be able to carry on the legacy of these two great stores,” states Brett Mulzer, owner of Moore Music.

Once completed, the acquisition will make Moore Music the Tri-State’s largest locally owned music store.
