Review of Bedell 1964 Orchestra by Dennis Lyerla

by Dennis Lyerla on October 14, 2015

The Bedell 1964 series guitars are built with some very traditional tone woods like Sitka Spruce and Honduran Mahogany. First thing, and something that is very important as far as forest conservation is concerned, absolutely NO forests were clear cut to build the 1964 series guitars. For instance, the Sitka spruce for these guitars is salvaged from downed trees in Alaska (Blown down, fallen or dead logs).

The 1964 Orchestra has a solid sitka spruce top, and solid Honduran mahogany back and sides. The guitar is built much like some legacy brands that were built over 50+ years ago. For starters, the 1964 is built using a traditional true dove tail neck joint, hide glue and high gloss nitro finish. Then you add in the bone nut, bone saddle, antique brass Bedell open gear tuners, and a factory installed K&K Pure Mini pickup.

This guitar is as beautiful to play as it is to look at, the guitar has such a rich tone when playing finger style and has a very big round tone when strumming with a pick. The neck on the 1964 has a satin finish and the soft C shape makes this guitar very comfortable to play. With the K&K pure mini passive pickup, there are no batteries or preamp to worry about with guitar, just a true representation of your guitars natural sound.

In closing, the Bedell 1964 Orchestra’s build quality, sound and construction would have you thinking you’d be pulling $3K or more from your wallet, but this beauty is yours for only $1990. Making this a great addition to your collection whether this is the first of many or “the last one I swear honey!” guitar…….
