THE GUITAR THAT GOT AWAY

It never fails, someone always wants to talk about that one special guitar that got away.  That tends to be a painful conversation. Let’s face it, we’ve all had to let go of a cherished guitar or two because, well, life happens. Unplanned emergencies that have to be dealt with right away, such as homes needing new furnaces in the dead of winter, cars needing new transmissions…you get the idea.

For me, it was the impending birth of my first child. Not an emergency, but a time in my life where I felt the need to grow up and become an adult. I was 23 and struggling with the reality that I needed to provide for and be responsible for a new life. Hanging onto material things, like expensive guitars, seemed selfish at the time. And those were things that could quickly be turned into money for diapers, formula, clothes, toys, etc.

Did I do the right thing?  I believe that for me, at that time in my life, absolutely.  That’s not to say that I don’t look back and wish I could have done it another way. I mean, I really miss those guitars!

There have been a couple of other “big change” moments in my life where I have felt the need to sacrifice some gear. It’s never fun, but always necessary at the time. Guitars come and go in life, but the memories we have never go away.

Tell us about your guitar or gear that got away and the circumstance around it!
