Ultimate Tone…and Consistency

Have you ever wondered why the tone of acoustic guitars can vary so much from guitar to guitar, even those made of the same wood and body type? According to Breedlove Guitars, there can be as much as a 30% variance in the density and frequency of tone woods – even when cut to the same dimension, within the same species, within the same tree!

Present day guitar makers continue to build guitars that do not accommodate for this variance, which can cause inconsistency and a lack of tonal optimization. Breedlove has found a way to optimize guitar build-outs to account for the known variance.  Using proprietary technology, Breedlove is able to “Sound Profile” every acoustic guitar top set through a series of measurements and vibration samples.

After reading the measurements and analyzing the vibration samples, the computer compares the results to a database of pre-loaded samples and determines what size/model a particular top set is best suited. Top sets are then labeled and set aside for production of the optimal size/model.

This is amazing! Sound profiling ensures two things – 1) each Breedlove guitar will be sonically maximized to reach its full tonal potential, and 2) from series to series, Breedlove guitars will be consistent in their volume and tonal characteristics.

Every Breedlove guitar produced in the Bend, Oregon factory gets some level of sound profiling. While some models are profiled to an average fundamental resonance frequency, other models (such as Legacy, Masterclass and Exotic) are profiled down to the specific top set.
