WHEN DID I GET TOO OLD FOR NEW MUSIC?

That’s it! I’m not watching any more awards shows on television. A couple of weeks ago, I made the decision to power through the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. A friend of mine plays drums for Cher, among other big artists, and she was performing and accepting an Icon award, so I wanted to see my buddy play on TV. Of course, Cher was literally the next to last performance of the show, so I was forced to watch the whole thing.

I have to admit, there were a lot of artists that I’ve never heard of before and a lot of music I’m just not aware of. As I watched these artists perform and accept awards, I began to feel very old and out of touch with the music industry.

How can that be? The music industry has been, and continues to be my life!  What happened?!  As I became increasingly disgusted, I took to my Facebook feed.  After a few comments, some friends of mine helped me realize that this is a natural progression and it’s nothing to get so upset about.  Our parents went through this just as we are now. Our music isn’t any less relevant.

This music and these artists represent a younger generation. This is their music.  I don’t like it, but I have no right to deny or condemn this music. But for the last time, turn it down and stay off my lawn! I'm inside rockin' out to some old Guns N Roses while you're bumping to the latest Drake record.
